He was not a quiet sleeper. His snores would rattle the pictures on the walls. Meredith rarely slept.

You'd think she and Kurt were doomed from the get go. But not so. Meredith would watch Kurt as he tossed and turned. She'd try to dissect his turbulent night time behavior and try to search for any secrets about himself that he might be revealing in the dead of night.

“... What was troubling him?,” Meredith wondered while she watched his hands and feet twitch like a puppy having a nightmare. “Maybe I should wake him. Maybe he knows.”

But somehow knowing was not as important as watching. There’s something about a person when they’re sleeping that makes them more authentic. There’s a lot of truth in sleep. There’s not one moment of trying to be something that you’re not. There’s not a tinge of insecurity. No space for judgments or criticisms.

The perfect person exists only in their slumber.

In addition to being much more likable in his sleep, Meredith read somewhere that our cells regenerate at night. So, when she watched Kurt’s evening gymnastics, she felt closer to him. Like she was witnessing his many deaths and rebirths. Subconsciously sacrificing her own recharging so she wouldn’t miss his.

Although such a sacrifice, as subconscious as it may be, did not comfort Meredith while she lay in bed, eyes wide open. She knew she was missing much more than a little rest when she didn’t sleep at night. There was a part of her - beyond the physical - that would never regenerate. A part of her that would never get a chance to die and resurrect in the morning.

“I come to you as though I appeared through a hole in space and time. There are [warps] in space and time through which you can travel: and in dreams you have been where I am. You are dreaming. You have yet to awaken. The inner senses will allow you to awaken and to see the awakening reality behind your dream.”

D.A.S. Project Practice: Projecting through Time

“Let us take an example. You sleep. While asleep you project yourself into the year 1972. There you see yourself considering various courses of action. For a moment you are aware of a sense of duality as you look at this older self You say you should do this or that, give a definite decision, you see. This may happen in several ways. We will go into this sort of thing more deeply in another session.

(Eyes open.) “In any case this future self of yours heeds what you say. Now, in the actual future you are the self who one way or another, you see, hears the voice of his past self. (Jane leans forward, knocking on the tabletop for emphasis, eyes wide.) Perhaps in a dream, or perhaps in a projection, made into the past.

“Before our break I will leave you with a few questions. Was there something your future self had forgotten? Did the future self request information, and did this request cause the present self, you see, to make an actual and legitimate projection into the future?”

D.A.S. Sethnet Archives: Creating OBEs

I have only had one OBE in my life so far and that was while reading the seth material during a very long stretch of several hours (Adventures in Consciousness I think it was).

I had broken off to lie down and close my eyes. I was not sleepy. Immediately, I felt a pulsing sensation in the third eye location-the center of my forehead. Within 30 seconds or so my astral body rose from the physical one and floated above the bed. I looked at my body lying there and noticed a silver umbilical cord attached between my two bodies.

I then proceeded to float throught the closed bedroom door and then downstairs and to the foyer of the townhouse. I was both thrilled and anxious to be out of my body. The sensation of freedom of movement was incredible. I got the immediate impression that I could zip anywhere I wanted to within a millisecond! This feeling was so awesome I began to think that it was just all too much for me to handle at that moment. I also got the feeling I was about to mee a fellow astral traveler. Not wanting to prolong the experience further I floated back upstairs and looked at my body. I lay down into it.

Immediately, the pulsing sensation stopped and I opened my eyes. Not long afterwards, I was taking a cat nap on a sofa and I had a lucid dream of Jane Roberts. She and I both were wearing black turtleneck shirts. She wanted very badly to drive us around in her new convertible. I found this out of character for her (my own preconceived notions about her I suppose), but at the same time exhilirating. We had a grand time, laughing, enjoying the sun and cool breezes.

The dream then switched to the two of us under a wide open sky at night looking at the stars. She formed the letter “L” with her index finger on the celestial canvas before us and it then appeared in twinkling outline among the stars.

I’ve often wondered about the significance of the letter “L” in that dream and it’s never revealed itself to me. Ahhhh....the magic and mystery of dreams. : - )

I recently heard another, closely related technique for creating OBE’s. When you wake up in the middle of the night, say 4AM or so, instead of going back to sleep, get up. Find a book about OBE’s (or lucid dreams if that is your goal) and read it for an hour or until your eyes are closing, then go back to bed. I haven’t tried this yet, but it sounds good to me. If anyone tries, post to let us know about it, and Bon Voyage!

The sleeping personality is as close to the inner self as you will come in this existence, for here the personality is soon free of the camouflage concerns with which it must be involved in the waking condition.

I’ve never tried the reading/projecting method. Thinking on it, I neither recall increased or differing OOBE’s as a result of reading related material,

But I will keep a careful check on that in future. I may have missed something.

I’ve always ‘travelled’ OOB naturally, ‘it’ more taught me, than I learned how I did do some research [after a fashion] on astral projection using symbology.

That was rather interesting.

Briefly, you choose a set of symbols you are comfortable with and locate them at key points throughout your house. Using them as ‘landmarks’ you visualise yourself leaving your body and travelling from one to another, first in sequence, then, as you improve your skills, at random, eventually not needing them at all.

I used it to improve my ‘technique’. I must say, I found it successful.

Best wishes *~melanie~*

“...suggestions should always be given before sleep, that the subconscious will maintain the organic integrity of the physical organism. This is basic. Suggestions should also be given so that a harmonious relationship be maintained among all levels of the personality structure. Suggestions given that constructive tendencies are given free reign. Perhaps more important, suggestions should be given that only constructive suggestions will be reacted to.”

D.A.S. Archives - OBEs in Childhood

****Am following this thread with great interest. I used to OOB all the time when I was a child. I’d just float around the house. I really liked it because in OOB I could see things high up, and you know, when you are a kid, you are short.

I thought everybody did this as a normal part of their daily lives. But around age 8-10, I started to realize that wasn’t the case and that what I was doing was “weird.” Haven’t managed it since then (at least that I’m consciously aware of and can knowingly define as such). I’ve read some books and tried several techniques, but I seem to still be blocked up about it.

This list has a way of accelerating things. Hoping this will be the case with OOBs. Maybe I’ll see ya in OOB-land soon.

D.A.S. Archives - OBEs in Childhood

Hi Yvonne,

I am thrilled to read your account of floating near the ceiling as a child. I did that, too, on a regular basis, but don’t recall telling anyone about it unless, possibly Sarah, my daughter. It gave me such a feeling of power to control where I flew. One dream I had at least hundreds of times was that of leaving my bed, floating through the house, out the back door, through the back and side yards to the middle of the highway (Main Street) and then, “POP” I was back in my bed. I’ve always wondered if, in another time, I was killed in a street.

As a matter of fact, one could say that most of my dreams, until early 20’s, were selected from a slim “book of dreams”, usually, any one dream being connected with a certain physical condition, such as sleeping with one arm over my head or being ill with a fever. But most of them were OOBE’s. In the waking state, I was quite sure that I could fly. Luckily, never tested it!

As a child, I loved to lie on the floor(wishing there was a couch) and pretend that I lived on the ceiling; it was so uncluttered up there. The only significance in that sort of daydream may be that it was a noisy, very cluttered house with nine people living it, at times!

Yvonne, you are the first person I’ve met, who had similar childhood dreams. What a neat discovery.

“....If you have your wits about you, you can gain information concerning the future by studying your projection environment, if for any reason you suppose it to be ahead of time. Some of this is extremely complicated. You may for example request before sleep that you project into your own future, to see what occurs there....”

In the same vein, try an affirmation technique, which I believe serves to focus your will and desire enough so that the Inner You will assist in opening the “dream gate” that signals the beginning of an OOB projection.

There are two varieties: 1. write on a piece of paper, over and over until you fall “asleep,” Now I’m out of body, 2. mentally repeat the same phrase, Now I’m out of body, until you drift off.

I have had some success this past year with #2, before going to sleep initially, and upon awakening after several sleep cycles (@90 minutes).

Rick Stack in his OOB book talks about a 30 day guarantee, and it’s true, that’s all it takes, so persistence WILL pay off in this endeavor.

I now believe that the same is true for any *other* altered state, like channeling, remote viewing, precognition, etc. Concentrating, opening the mind, moving through fear issues (limiting beliefs) all open the gates of the Inner Selves that are just waiting to emerge from inside each of us.

Happy Journeys,

Paul
